El Nido Town Restaurants : Part Two - Food from All Over the World- All Over the World

Updated: Dec 29, 2023

Something has hit me like a ton of bricks and I'm embarassed to admit, but did you guys know that there is food from all over the world, everywhere?! Yes America is the 'Great Melting Pot' but we don't own having intercontinental cuisine. When I was in Mexico I ate exclusively Mexican food- I didn't really notice if places offered other options. Here, in The Philippines, it is apparent. much like driving down 'Main Street, USA' Filipino food is abundant, but so is Italian, Korean, Mexican, Greek, Japanese. I've been beating myself up a bit feeling like I wasn't branching out enough, but then I realized we don't live in The States and only eat "American food" so I've started eating guilt free and it's a lot better that way.We went to check out the El Nido town restaurants when we first arrived. We went to a restaurant offering a Filipino menu and an Italian menu- we went for the Filipino menu and it was amazing! On our way out the chef stopped us to ask how our meal was he asked if we had Filipino or Italian. We told him Filipino and Chef Luka told us he is actually an Italian chef and to come back and try the Italian food next time- we did and to say we were not disappointed is an understatement!

We have also ventured out into the streets to try some Filipino street food. We tried some Kwek-Kwek (deep fried hard boiled quail egg) and Dynamita ( Green finger chiles stuffed with cheese wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and deep fried- Whoa was that hot!) and some weird deep fried fish thing- all of which cost a total of 37 pesos (or 67 cents.)

All of this to say we have been exploring the local delicacies we have also been experiencing new takes on familiar dishes. I will say the quality of ingredients is better and it's nice to spend less that $20 on an average dinner bill. The meals seem pretty carb and protein heavy but fresh juices and shakes are abundant. It seems like a very different way of eating, but we are catching on. Still staying hydrated and getting all of our major food groups.
